As one door closes...
Most people who follow our market know that it's rife with gossiping busybodies. And I'm guessing that there will be plenty of gossiping about me, now that it's official that I'm joining Samsonite as its new Director of B-to-B Sales effective 5/14/07.
It was concurrently a difficult and easy decision. "Difficult" in that I am leaving my entrepreneurial ventures, "Easy" in the fit for the Brand and for me on both professional and personal levels.
Samsonite is a Brand with considerable equity in the consumer and Special Markets universes. I'm excited and flattered to be the one who gets to lead it into the next phase of its lifecycle.
There are considerable challenges (not the least of which is the current SAP conversion, something with which I have painful experience), but the positives are so much greater than the shortcomings my main job will be to stay out of the way.
I plan to continue the Blog, in part because there is still much I haven't weighed in on yet, in part because I enjoy the interaction with those who read it, and in part because I like spouting off.
I will continue to facilitate Special Markets Dialogues (unless the attendees decide I'm no longer "objective" enough), and I will keep my hand in committee work for both PPAI and IMA (I'm a newly-appointed Board member @ IMA, my second go-round).
As I celebrate my 50th Birthday I realize I'm ready for a fresh challenge and an opportunity to help set the agenda for the market. We face new threats to the way we've been doing business and it will take our best and brightest to create/execute creative solutions. From my pulpit @ Samsonite I hope to be a voice in this debate.
Those of you in my professional network will get an email soon with my new email address and contact info. Those who read the Blog for sport can post comments, heckle, or contact me to follow up.
